FAQ's
Please contact UK Silent Discos on 07907 236 890 if you can't find the answer to your question below.
Hygiene
Are our Silent Disco Headphones hygienic?
- The short answer is yes. We've also covered this in our 'Health and Safety' policy. If you head over there, you'll find that our headphones are hygienic along with other health and safety information too.
Headphones
How many Silent Disco Headphones do I need?
- It would be advisable to hire one set of Silent Disco Headphones per attendee, plus a few spares for any unexpected guests that may turn up.
- The battery life on the headphones is 8-10 hours. If your event is longer than this, it would be advisable to hire two headphones per attendee.
How many Silent Disco Headphones can be used at once?
- You're able to use an unlimited number of Silent Disco Headphones at once.
- A single Silent Disco transmitter can transmit to hundreds, or thousands, of headphones at the same time, with no loss of signal, sound quality or audio lag.
Do Silent Disco Headphones arrive fully charged?
- All Silent Disco headphones will arrive fully charged.
- Any battery-powered items will arrive with fresh batteries.
What is the battery life of the Silent Disco Headphones?
- The rechargeable batteries built in to our Silent Disco Headphones, will last around 8 to 10 hours on a single charge.
- Battery life can be prolonged by using the Silent Disco Headphones at a lower volume, by turning off the LEDs and by using them nearer to the transmitter.
What do the flashing LED colours mean on the Silent Disco Headphones?
- Each colour LED represents a channel.
- Red = Channel One
- Green = Channel Two
- Blue = Channel Three
- Your friends can see what you're listening to by the colour of your headphones LEDs.
- In a multi DJ setting, the DJs can see how many people are listening to their channel. The DJs can compete with each other to win lights by playing the tracks the guests want to hear and winning them over to their channel.
How do I turn the LEDs off on the Silent Disco Headphones if we're using them in a conference setting?
- Press and hold the volume dial on the headphone for three seconds and the LEDs will be turned off.
Transmitters
What range do your transmitters, transmit over?
- Our Transmitters will transmit for 200 to 300 meters on their low setting or up to 500 meters on their high setting.
- Transmission distances may be affected due to environmental factors such as buildings and other obstacles that sit between the Transmitter and the headphones.
Microphones
Can we use Microphones with our Silent Disco?
Yes...
Mixing Desks
If you're booking a Mixing Desk, then chances are you're familiar with how to use one.
- For clear and simple instructions on how to set up one of our mixing desks, please visit our 'Setting up your Silent Disco' page. This page will also provide a basic explanation of how to use the mixing desk.
Incorporating a Mixing Desk into your Silent Disco allows you to plug in additional items and transmit their sound to all headphones listening to that channel.
Items that can be plugged into the mixing desk...
- DJ Decks.
- Music source such as a Mobile Phone, iPad, Laptop or Tablet.
- Microphones (wired and wireless).
- Musical instruments such as Keyboards, Guitars, Synthesisers etc.
Cables
What cables are included?
- All of the items we hire to you will arrive with the necessary cables required to connect them to each other.
- Additional cables may be required to connect items not provided by UK Silent Discos such as Phones, Tablets or Laptops.
- We supply audio cables with a 3.5mm audio jack to connect your devices, such as Phones, Tablets and Laptops, to the Silent Disco Transmitter. We do not supply device specific adapters such as Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapters which maybe required by some Apple devices.
Music Sources
- All three music sources, be it Phones, Tablets, Laptops or DJ Desks, should be set to the same volume as each other so tracks playing on different channels are all heard at the same volume.
- The three music sources should be set to between 70% and 100% maximum volume. If using a 'mixing desk', the master volume can then be controlled here.
- All users have overall control of the volume on their headphones via the volume dial. However, if the three music sources are playing at different volumes, the music will be heard in the Silent Disco Headphones at different volumes too.
- Once the Silent Disco has begun, it is ill advised to significantly or dramatically increase the volume at the musics source.
Connecting DJ Consoles
- If hosting a Three Channel Silent Disco, you can have up to three DJ's performing at a single time.
- If you have DJ's performing at your Silent Disco, let them 'compete for lights' and try to win the room over to their channel, by playing the best tracks.
- The Mixing Desk output, connects to the transmitter with a double-ended left/right aux cable, which we supply.
Connecting Mobile Phones, iPads, Tablets
- Connect your Phone directly to the Transmitter via the left/right to the 3.5mm audio aux cable provided. The 3.5mm jack simply plugs into your phone just as a pair of headphones would, with the left and right connectors plugging into the transmitter or the mixing desk.
- Some phones don't have headphone jacks and may need an adapting cable. These are usually provided with your phone or are very cheap to buy. We do not supply device specific adapters such as Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapters which maybe required by some Apple devices due to so many devices requiring brand, and/or model specific adaptors.
Streaming Playlists from Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify etc
- Simply connect your music source to the Transmitter or Mixing Desk, pull up your playlist and hit play. It will then be transmitted through the transmitter and to all of the headphones. Please be sure to adjust the volume accordingly.

What happens if you lose or damage any items?
- Lost or damaged items will be charged at the full replacement cost.
- We have covered this in our 'Terms and Conditions'.
- If hosting a public event, or an event in a public space, it is advisable to charge a deposit to each guest/participant, before providing them with a pair of Silent Disco headphones.
